Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 Update - New Features & Patch Notes Explained! (2026)

Animal Crossing: New Horizons just got a massive update, and it's packed with exciting new features! This isn't just a minor patch; it's a significant overhaul, especially for those of you with the latest Switch 2. Let's dive into what's new and improved, shall we?

This update, version 3.0.0, went live on January 14, 2026, and Nintendo has generously shared the full patch notes.

General Updates (for both Switch 2 and original Switch):

  • The previously announced new content and features are now live!
  • Crafting just got a whole lot easier! You can now craft up to 10 items at once, provided you have the materials.
  • Your home storage is now even more useful: you can use items stored there as DIY materials. This is a game-changer for those of us who love to hoard resources!
  • The DIY Recipes app has been upgraded. You can now easily check hotel DIY requests and items requested by Tom Nook.
  • Items linked with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp can now always be ordered from Nook Shopping.
  • Even better, Super Mario Bros. items can be ordered from Nook Shopping without linking to a Nintendo Account!
  • You can now move while facing the same direction, by holding down the L Button.
  • Isabelle will now suggest recommended melodies when changing the island tune, including the original island tune.
  • When changing the island flag, you can revert to the original design from when the island was created.
  • Stock up on customization kits! You can now purchase up to 50 at once from Nook's Cranny.
  • Sell even more items at the drop-off box at Nook's Cranny, including Snowflakes.
  • Get a Pearl every time you give a scallop to Pascal.
  • Leif can remove weeds when there are 30 or more on your island, either on Harv’s Island or during his visits.
  • The fee for asking Leif to remove weeds has been reduced. A little help goes a long way!
  • New tips have been added to the Island Life 101 app.
  • Additional Nook Miles tasks have been added alongside the new features.
  • The order of some collaboration items has been updated in the catalogs used for photo studios and hotel decorating.
  • Other adjustments and corrections were made to improve the gameplay experience.

Switch 2 Specific Updates:

  • Fixed an issue where the startup sound for Nook Shopping on the smartphone would not play correctly.

NookLink (Nintendo Switch App) Updates:

  • New articles have been added to the Island Newspaper.
  • The Catalog now supports new items added in Ver. 3.0.0.

Important Note: To enjoy these NookLink features, you'll need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and a compatible smart device with the Nintendo Switch App installed.

But here's where it gets controversial... While these updates seem overwhelmingly positive, some players might miss the original feel of the game. What do you think? Are you excited about the changes, or do you have any reservations? Let us know in the comments below!
