Imagine walking into your favorite part of Disney World, only to find a piece of the magic… missing. That's the reality right now for fans of Pete's Silly Sideshow in the Magic Kingdom! The iconic circus tent is undergoing a major refurbishment, and the most noticeable change so far? The entire roof has been removed!
But don't panic! This isn't some permanent change. This popular meet-and-greet location in Storybook Circus is simply getting some much-needed TLC. Just a few days prior, a themed scrim was put in place to hide the ongoing work from guests. However, the missing roof is still visible above the scrim, especially if you're not at ground level in Storybook Circus.
You might be wondering why the roof needed such drastic measures. Well, it's been showing its age for a while. Over the past several months, the Florida sun had taken its toll, causing fading and, more noticeably, a tear in the tent's fabric. Think of it like your favorite beach umbrella after a long summer – it needs a little repair to keep looking its best!
And this is the part most people miss... The 'tent' you see is actually a facade. The actual building has its own ceiling, which is now visible with the tent roof removed. It is unclear if the rest of the circus tent theming has been removed due to the scrim and construction walls.
Construction walls went up around Pete's Silly Sideshow a few weeks ago, with a large portion of scaffolding visible between Pete's and Big Top Souvenirs. So, the area is definitely a work in progress.
So, what about those character meet-and-greets? Fear not, character fans! While Pete's Silly Sideshow is closed, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy have temporarily relocated to meet guests outside in Storybook Circus. It's like an impromptu, open-air character party! And as always, Mickey Mouse himself is holding court at the Town Square Theater near the park entrance. Plus, keep an eye out for Pluto, who often roams around Storybook Circus, ready for a friendly pat.
But here's where it gets controversial... Some guests actually prefer outdoor meet-and-greets! They argue that the natural light makes for better photos and that the open space feels less crowded. Others miss the themed atmosphere and air conditioning of the indoor location. Which brings us to a key question to ponder: Do you prefer meeting your favorite characters indoors or outdoors? Does the ambiance of a themed indoor space outweigh the potential benefits of natural light and more open surroundings?
While the refurbishment is underway, it's a good reminder that even the most magical places need a little upkeep now and then. It's all part of keeping the Disney experience fresh and exciting for years to come.
Now, here's where we want to hear from you! What are your thoughts on this refurbishment? Are you excited to see the refreshed Pete's Silly Sideshow, or will you miss the original tent roof? Do you prefer outdoor character meet-and-greets, or do you crave the air-conditioned comfort of an indoor experience? Share your opinions on social media and let's get the conversation started!
